Hboub joined the first division in 2010, and they have been showing a good performance. Last year they finished in fifth place. Will they maintain their good level this year? Coach Elie Najjar joined us in a brief interview where we discussed the following:
Q: When did the team start preparations, and how many training sessions per week is the team performing?
A: Our Lebanese players started training in October, two of our foreign players arrived in mid November, and Nasir joined us at the end of December. We are having four training sessions a week, but our foreign players have an extra four to five training sessions per week in the morning.
Q: What are the team’s goals this year in the championship?
A: Our first goal is to reach the Final 8 stage, and end up in the Final 6 stage as a minimum.
Q: Which team do you consider to be your hardest opponent?
A: Anwar. They have no weak points, except their setter’s block. They have good attack, and distinguished middle blockers.
Q: What are the advantages that your team has over its rivals?
A: We have good service, and three stable foreign players. Furthermore, our Lebanese players are young and motivated.
Q: What are the latest results that your team has achieved from friendly games?
A: We participated in Sami Abou Jaoude’s Memorial tournament with two foreign players. Our goal was to test the Lebanese players, and get them ready. We lost the three games (Anwar 3-0, Dalhoun 3-1, Riseleh Sarafand 3-0). We also had one training game after this tournament which was against Speedball Chikka in which we lost 2-1. That game was played the day Nasir arrived.
Q: What are your expectations for your first game this season which will be against Dalhoun?
A: Our players are practicing very well and they are ready. We played a friendly game with two foreign players against Dalhoun where we lost, but the sets were close. Our first game is not so hard, and we should win it.
